Thursday 18th April. 48miles. Prettin to Strehla
The weather is warm- positively hot at times, so at last I am wearing cycle shorts and no Merino wool jersey. Today cycled through Torgau, an important historical spot not only because it has some very old buildings, but because, apparently it was were the Americans.and Russians carved Germany into 2 after the second World War.
Then I cycled on down a great cycle path alongside the Elbe, when I smelled food cooking and went into a family run riverside restaurant. There I met Angela, sitting on her own at a table. She helped me decipher the menu and I ended up with a beautifully cooked plate of vegetables with a really good cheese sauce plus chips. She is cycling up the Elbe for a couple of days, so we carried on together. Angela is an art restorer who has been working on some of the art work in historic buildings, She is very knowledgeable and took me sightseeing around Muhlberg, then into a bakery where I had tea and cherry pie - after all 4 pm is afternoon tea time.
After all that excitement and eating, did not arrive at campsite until after 6.30. Shut, fenced, locked. No chance of getting in. So am staying in the youth hostel, which is a shame because it is a lovely warm evening and camping would have been nice.
