Wednesday 3rd April 10am.
Yesterday 50 miles from Alnmouth to Dennis's farm near Stamfordham. Should have been 38 according to my route planner, so a couple of minor navigational errors. I followed route 1 down to Lynemouth through the Northumberland mining area. The mines started to close in the 1970's leaving a big void in the area. 40 years on rejuvenation has taken place, coal slaggs have been turned into country parks, a very good cafe on the seafront at Cresswell was doing a roaring trade, and the area looked and felt good. Between Amble and Lynemouth I was never out of view of a dog walker. Loads and loads of dogs big ones, little ones hairy ones, and skinny whippits.
The daffodils around the castle at Warkworth were looking wind blown, but the expected rain had come through the night. I was prepared and was wearing wet weather gear, but bt the time I had left route 1 and made my way to Morpeth, it was positively warm. I sat in the park.
After that I probably did not take the quickest route to get over the A1, but found my way to the farm near Stamfordham. John was there before me, I had a bit of a wait in the lane whilst the cows made their way along for milking. They were not on their best behaviour, as it was their first day in the fields after, inside winter quarters.
Thank you Dennis for putting meand John up for the night.
